New deep well and school being built in the Village of Poel (2024)
The team in Quebo has been working hard to build a new school building for the children in the village of Poel. The new block schoolhouse will replace the little shack they had been using and make room for many more students to receive an education. A deep well is also being drilled nearby to supply the school and village with clean drinking water.
Easter Campout 2024
Each year around Easter the members of the three churches planted by the team in Quebo gather for a time of training and fellowship at a nearby river. It is exciting to see how God is working through the church and bringing new believers into the kingdom!
Construction almost complete on the new school in Bissau (2023)
Jeremias School in Bissau is almost completed. At the moment there are 70 students attending the school and receiving an education as well as a meal each day. The school goes from kindergarten to 7th grade
New School opening in Fall of 2021
The end of the rainy season in Guinea Bissau means that school is starting back. We are excited about this year because we were able to help an indigenous missionary named Jeremias purchase a larger piece of land in the Capital of Bissau to expand his Christian school. This will give more kids access to a good education and give them the opportunity to hear the gospel. He was able to build temporary classrooms that will be sufficient for this school year but in the future we hope to help him build a larger permanent building.
Rainy Season and Christmas in Quebo 2020
The rainy season in Guinea Bissau has come to an end and the team in Quebo once again was blessed with a good harvest. The corn has been harvested and silage has been chopped and stored for the dry season. Cooler temperatures have arrived and everyone enjoyed spending Christmas together!
Jeremias’ School in Bissau hoping to expand
Hope Remembered has been supporting the work of a local pastor and evangelist named Jeremias M’Batna for almost 6 years. He now has a growing Christian school in the Capital as well as a church. We are currently working to raise the funds he needs to buy more land and expand his school.
Dry Season Vegetable Gardening 2019/2020
The dry season in Guinea Bissau lasts from November until May. The early part of the dry season is the best time to grow vegetables because of the cooler temperatures and lower humidity. In the cool season of 2019/2020 Travis had great success in Quebo with his garden. He used drip irrigation to conserve water in the demonstration garden behind their house and also had the opportunity to install drip irrigation for a local pastor that lives in a village about three hours from them. Our desire in the future is to train others how to use drip irrigation and provide affordable drip kits for people to purchase
Rainy season farming 2019
Guinea Bissau has a rainy season that lasts from June until the end of October. This is the best time of year for planting crops such as corn, rice, sunflowers, and other field crops. The team in Quebo had a lot of success during the rainy season of 2019 using the Farming God’s Way method.
Water tower construction complete!
In January of 2020 the team in Quebo began constructing a 35 foot water tower that will be used for irrigation and to provide clean water for their neighbors. It was quite a challenge since they had to design and build it themselves with little experience but it all worked out. They plan on installing a 1000g tank on top that will supply water for drip irrigation and drinking water.
Well completed in Quebo!
In 2019 because of your generosity Hope Remembered was able to drill a deep well in Quebo. This well should have water all year long. It has already been a blessing to the people who live near the project and who come get water in the dry season. It will also serve as the water source to irrigate the project land for growing crops in the dry season. Check out the slide show of the well drilling process!

Dry Season Gardening 2017/2018
We were able to take what we learned in 2016 and apply it to a larger garden. Lots of the neighbor kids were really interested in what we were doing so we gave them their own little plots to care for. It was a great learning experience for them and they were proud to be able to take home produce to their families.
Our first experiment with drip Irrigation in 2016
In 2016 we had the opportunity to create a dry season garden using drip tape irrigation at the project in Quebo. We had great results and learned a lot about farming in the hottest, driest part of the year. This type of irrigation doesn’t require pumps and water towers so it is an affordable option for the locals. All you need is a 50 gallon drum and an elevated platform to water the garden. We drew water from the well and filled the tank once or twice a day depending on the temperature.
